またまた上天気の日曜日。連れ合いが行きたがっていた、丹波篠山のお蕎麦屋さん波之丹蕎麦処一会庵に行って来ました。古民家をそのままお店にしてあるような、重厚な趣のある店内です。珍しい囲炉裏や天狗のお面等があって待っている間に自由に見て歩けます。It was another lovely sunny Sunday. My partner wanted to head off to a soba buckwheat noodle restaurant in Tamba Sasayama, so off we drove to Ichie-an. It is set in an old traditional minka farmhouse, an atmospheric, big old place, replete with an unusual irori open hearth fireplace and a big tengu long-nosed goblin mask hanging on the wall. You are free to wander around and have a look as you please.

庭に面した広い縁側で。こんな天気の日は、一段と気持ちがいいです。広がる畑の景色が素晴らしいです。On the verandah facing out into the garden, it feels so nice on a sunny day like this. The view across the wide fields of crops is really nice.

待つ事しばし。始めにそば茶と、そばを揚げたおつまみが出て来ます。そしていよいよ蕎麦切りが登場。薬味も何も付いてこない、極シンプルなものです。We waited awhile. First came sobacha soba tea, then soba chips as an appetiser, and finally the soba itself. It is called sobakiri, and comes without any seasonings or toppings for the dipping sauce. It is about as simple as it gets.

期待に胸がはずみます!Heaving with anticipation!

すごい歯ごたえで、お好きな方にはたまらないお蕎麦でしょう。つなぎは使わず10割蕎麦だとか。でも、食べ進むうちに私には歯ごたえがありすぎるというか、ほとんど硬すぎたように思えました。つゆはきりっとした味わい、干し椎茸の香りが立っていました。これも好みが分かれそうです。The texture is rather unusually firm, and if you like that kind of thing, you’ll quite likely get addicted to it. The soba noodles here are purely buckwheat, and although they don’t contain any tsunagi binding agent, when I took a bite I almost felt it was too chewy. The tsuyu dipping sauce has a crispness to it, with the aroma of dried shiitake mushrooms. Again this might be to your taste, or not.

メニューは3品のみ。結局私の直球ストライクゾーンには入りませんでした。The menu has just three items, cold sobakiri noodles, sobagaki buckwheat ‘dumplings’ and sobagakisenzai the latter with sweet adzuki beans.

It wasn’t my cup of tea, after all…
